# What is CharacterWeaver

## :question:What is CharacterWeaver?

> CharacterWeaver is a Discord bot that lets you create customisable characters that react automatically to certain actions that you configure.
>
> It's a fairly advanced bot, designed to be very flexible. It can be difficult to get to grips with. If you have any doubts or questions, you can contact us on the [support server](https://discord.characterweaver.com/)!

## :airplane: Since when is CharacterWeaver running?

> CharacterWeaver was approved by Discord in october 2023 and has been running ever since.

## :thinking: Why does the project exist?

> After our experience of managing Discord servers, we noticed that discussions sometimes lacked fantasy and dynamism. When we discovered ChatGPT, we immediately realised that it was possible to solve this problem by automating interactions and involving characters in conversations. After a first version of the project, we extended the possibilities of use to allow CharacterWeaver to be used for many different purposes. As much for fun as for learning.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.characterweaver.com/overview/what-is-characterweaver.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
